Call me Alaw…

Alaw began her creative journey when she started making YouTube videos as a teenager. From there she expanded her skillset by designing t-shirts that were sold on sites like Redbubble, and eventually started a podcast about English literature with her schoolmates.

At university, Alaw became heavily involved in student radio, hosting a slew of programmes ranging from film scores to feature-heavy factual programming. Eventually she would become the station’s Head of Production, in charge of maintaining the high-quality of programming that students expected. In that time Alaw also spearheaded several station-wide projects, including the production of a charity Christmas single, which raised over $200.

After university Alaw continued creating, hosting two podcasts, (one focused on music production, the other on early 2000s media) and eventually moved to Aotearoa New Zealand in 2020. She worked with the Rotorua Arts Village to create a community arts-focused podcast called The Arts Village People in 2021 and continues to produce the show remotely to this day.

Alaw moved to Pōneke Wellington in 2022 and found freelance work as a subcontracted editor for Precision Podcasting, where Alaw edited episodes of The My Mortgage Podcast, School Sport NZ’s What I Know Now, and What Matters Most with Antonia Prebble and Jaqui Maguire.

Alaw currently works as a Media, Marketing and Communications assistant for an independent bookshop in Pito One, where she creates engaging regular social media content, as well as maintaining a monthly newsletter and designing eye-catching event posters.

In her spare time, Alaw enjoys film photography, collecting obscure and obsolete media formats and watching classic episodes of the Simpsons and Doctor Who.
